Off-Piste safety comes first
Skiing off the beaten track is an unforgettable experience. However, such an adventure comes with certain risks and dangers. One hundred per cent safety cannot be guaranteed.
Important to consider
- Read the latest local avalanche report
- Get information from local, highly qualified ski/snowboard instructors, ski/snowboard guides, or mountain guides about the build-up of the snow cover, and weather conditions over the past few weeks.
- Look out for build-up of snow on ridges etc., caused by wind.
- Dig a snow pit to test the snow profile. This gives you information about the structural strength of the snow cover.
- Choice the right terrain – open field, gully, windward side, or leeward side.
- Never ride alone off the piste.
- Being accompanied by an experienced, qualified, freeride guide, or mountain guide is recommended.
